Assessment
Assessment is an integral component of systematic curriculum implementation. At Annandale State School we use assessment to gather evidence of student learning to inform teaching and to make judgements about achievement against the relevant standards.
We ensure effective coverage of the relevant achievement standards either using summative
assessment or monitoring strategies in year and/or band planning. Through effective coverage we ensure
that there is sufficient evidence of student learning collected against the relevant standard to make
academic reporting decisions.
To ensure coverage is effective, we consider context and use of assessment and reporting data to determine:
* which aspects of the achievement standard will be emphasised and whether there will be multiple
opportunities to demonstrate particular aspects
* which aspects of the achievement standard will be assessed using a summative assessment task
* which aspects of the achievement standard will be assessed using a monitoring strategy
* the range and balance of assessment conventions.
Assessment Conditions
Each assessment tasks includes a Marking Guide with a five point scale and a cover sheet, outlining the conditions of assessment, including mode of assessment, due date and reasonable adjustments that are permitted. Assessment is to be completed independently by students within the conditions of assessment. In most instances, assessment is completed during class time at school.
Assessment Submission
Students are required to submit assessment by the due date. The conditions of assessment outlined on the cover sheet will provide information of the format of submission, eg. digital, oral, handwritten.
Reporting
While
our classroom teachers are available to discuss your
child’s progress throughout the school year by booking an appointment,
there are key times of year when the school formally reports to
parents.
Parent Information Sessions
At
the beginning of each year our teachers open their
classrooms to talk about the year ahead with students
and their families. This provides parents with an
opportunity to visit their child’s classroom and speak directly with the
teacher regarding the programs being undertaken throughout the year.
Progress Meetings
At
the end of Term 1 and Term 3, parents and guardians are invited to attend
Parent-Teacher meetings to discuss individual student progress. This is an
important checkpoint for parents before formal academic reporting at the end of
each semester.
Academic Reporting
At
the end of each semester (Last week of Term Two and Four),
families will receive a digital report card, detailing the academic
and behaviour performance of their child. These reports provide an
overview of your child’s academic achievement against the Achievement
Standard, attendance
and general behaviour across all aspects of school
life.
Reporting Scale
The
following 5-point scale is used to report student
achievement in Prep to Year 2:

An ‘N’ is used in exceptional
circumstances, when there is insufficient summative assessment evidence to make
a judgement about a student’s level of achievement. An ‘N’ can be used when a
student has recently arrived (new to state schools or new to the school) or
they have extended absences. An ‘N’ can be used for EAL/D students.
